Marketers can utilize search engines for many purposes. They can advertise their websites on search engines so that when a person searches a specific keyword their company’s link will appear. These companies must pay the search engine owners for this feature. They may pay on a pay-per-click basis or a flat rate, depending on the agreement. This is termed ‘search engine marketing’. It allows marketers to direct potential customers to their website where they offer a product or service. From here they can sell their product or service, receive customer feedback, and build brand loyalty, brand equity, customer relationships, company reputation, etc. Search engine marketing will be addressed with more detail later including search engine optimization.
